Mrs. Elizabeth M. Burke, wife of Michael J. Burke of 326 South Eight street, passed away at her home on Sunday morning at 6:55 o'clock, following an illness of less than a week. Last Tuesday at noon she was stricken with paralysis and her condition was critical from the start. She was found lying unconscious on the floor at her home when her husband returned at noon, and remained in that condition for some time. Her condition was such that hope was practically given up toward the last. Mrs. Burke's death has been sincerely mourned by a large body of friends and acquaintances as she was one of the city's most highly loved and esteemed residents.

During a residence here of sixty years she made a place in the hearts of her friends and neighbors by her kind and unaffected ways and she will be sadly missed from those church and social circles that she graced in the past.

Born in Keokuk.

Mrs. Burke's maiden name was Elizabeth Hultz and she was born in this city on January 21, 1855, being in her sixty-first year at the time of her death. Her whole life was spent in Keokuk and she was educated in St. Vincent's academy and St. Peter's school.

Her marriage to Michael J. Burke occurred in St. Peter's Catholic church, of which the decedent was a life-long member, on Oct. 13, 1889, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Thomas O'Reilly. Mrs. Burke was a deeply religious woman and an active church worker. She belonged to the Ladies of Charity and Rosary societies.

Of four children, two survive. They are Rudolph E. Burke of this city and Harry L. Burke of Chicago. The latter is in Keokuk now. Two grandchildren, Juanita and Robert Burke and a sister-in-law, Anna Burke, are the only other survivors besides the husband. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning from St. Peter's church.
