COMMODORE DAWSON

Commodore Dawson, Retired farmer and nearly a life long resident of Donnellson, passed away at his home in Freemont, Nebraska, at 5:45 PM on Wednesday, October 13, 1948. Thus ended a full and rich life, reaching back over the broad span of 86 years, 9 months and 6 days.
He is most sincerely mourned as a kind and loving husband and father and devout friend of many in the Donnellson community who had enjoyed his associations through the years.
A son of Peyton and Sarah Dawson, both deceased, he was born near Big Mound, Iowa on January 7, 1862. He and Nannie Powell were united in marriage on April 19, 1893, and they established their home on the farm in Donnellson vicinity, where they reared their family and continued to reside until their retirement six years ago. At that time they moved to Freemont, Nebraska.
Their happy union was saddened by the death of one son, Glen at the age of 45 and to twin sons, who passed away in infancy.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his devoted wife and help-mate, two sons, Lloyd Dawson of
La Harpe, Ill and Lee Dawson of Shelton, Washington, one daughter, Mrs Della Paschal of Freemont, Nebraska; one brother, Sherman Dawson, of near Sharon; one sister, Mrs Minnie Druse of Revere, Missouri; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to the three children, he was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, October 17th at the Clay Grove Methodist Church, Rev Alton H Zischke officiating.
Miss Lois Jones sang and was accompanied by Miss Helen Paisley.
Pall Bearers were; Clifford Overton, Tilford Overton, Robert Myers, Richard Overton, Charles Myers and Wilmer Overton.
Burial was in Clay Grove Cemetery.

COMMODORE DAWSON

Commodore Dawson, son of the late Peyton and Sarah Dawson, passed away at his home in Freemont, Nebraska at 5:45 PM after a lingering illness, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 6 days.
He was born near Sharon Jan 7, 1862 and spent most of his life in this vicinity. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Clay Grove Methodist Church.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, Nannie Powell Dawson; two sons Lloyd of La Harpe, Ill and Lee of Bremerton, Wash; one daughter, Mrs Della Paschal of Freemont, Nebr.; one brother, Sherman of near Sharon; one sister, Mrs Minnie Druse of Revere, MO; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Glen, two children in infancy, one sister and one brother.
The body is being brought here from Fremont and will be taken to the Agnew Funeral Home where short services will be held for the relatives at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon following the services in the Clay Grove Methodist Church at 2:30 with Rev Alton H Zischke in charge. Burial will be in Clay Grove Cemetery.

These obituaries were obtained from the Donnellson, Iowa library. The publishing papers are unknown but believed to be local Lee County papers. The publishing dates are 18 October and 14 October 1948
