Mrs. Gertrude Meierotto, widow of the late Christopher Meierotto, a well known and highly respected resident of St. Paul, this county, passed away at her home, Friday, May 19, 1916, at 2:45 p.m., age 78 years and three months. Gertrude Nuenkemper was born in Germany, February 19, 1838. In 1855 at the age of seventeen she came to America and settled in St. Louis. Four years later, in 1859 she was united in marriage to Joseph Bueker of Jefferson County, MO., where she lived for many years. This union was blessed with ten children. Her husband passed away in 1884, and two years later, in 1886, the mother and children came to Lee County and deceased has been a resident of this vicinity ever since. July 20, 1887 she was united in marriage to Christopher Meierotto at St. James Church in St. Paul. The surviving children are: Mrs. Henry J. Kempker of St. Paul, Mrs. Gus Vorwaldt of West Point, Mrs. Pius Mohr of Davenport, and Henry Buecker of Pueblo, Colorado. Also by the following step children: John and Edward Meierotto of St. Paul, Otto Meierotto of West Point, Chris and Casper Meierotto of Houghton, Joseph Meierotto of Sheldon, N.D., Henry Meierotto of Darwin, Minnesota, Gerhard Meierotto of Davenport, Mrs. Henry Brockland of St. Louis, MO. and Mrs. George Fullenkamp of Burbank, S.D. One sister survives, Mrs. Henry Shinstock of Houghton and twenty seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Deceased was a woman of many noble traits of character and performed many good deeds in life. She was a member of St. James church at St. Paul and also of the Rosary Society of that parish. A kind, loving and indulgent mother, and her death will be mourned by many friends and acquaintances. The funeral was held at St. James Church Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Father Rangger officiated and the services were largely attended. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. West Point Bee 5-25-1916 contributed by Dorothy Meierotto
