Christopher Meierotto, Sr., an honored pioneer who came to Marion Township in 1840 and who had been one of the most widely known and highly respected resident's of the northern part of Lee County, passed away at his home in St. Paul, Sunday, September the 8th 1907 at 4:30 p.m. after a three days illness, aged 79 years, 9 months and 2 days. Mr. Meierotto was born in Westphalia, Germany, November 6, 1828 to Christian and Elizabeth Antfanger Meierotto. In 1855 he married Miss Mary Huchtons the daughter of Christian and Margaret Termeier Huchtons. To this union were born eleven children, nine sons and two daughters. Christ Jr., Bernhard, Henry, Casper, John, Otto, Joseph and Edward all of the vicinity of St. Paul. Gerhard Meierotto of Davenport, Mrs. Henry Brockland (Margaret) of St. Louis, MO. and Mrs. George Fullenkamp (Christina) of Pilot Grove. His first wife preceded him to the grave in 1884 and one son, Bernhard (Barney) who met an accidental death in 1904. In 1886 he was again married to a widow, Mrs. Gertrude Buecker, who besides the ten children survive him. The deceased came to this country with his parents at the age of 12. They settled in Marion Township, where the deceased had been a resident ever since. His allotted time on earth was almost four score years. He has lived a long life and in that period the world had advanced in wonderful strides. A long and useful life he had lived as a just an upright citizen and will be missed by a host of friends, relatives and neighbors. He lived on his farm almost all of his life. In the spring of this year he retired and moved into a newely erected modern home in St. Paul, the comfort he only enjoyed a short three months. The funeral services were held at St. James Catholic Church at St. Paul of which deceased was a faithful member, Wednesday morning at 9:30. He was also a member of St. Josephs Society. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev. John Adam of Houghton, in the absence of the regular pastor, Rev. Tegeler, officiated and preached an impressive sermon.
