John Joseph Newcomb, 76, of 470 E. 14th Street, died at 2:07 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy Hospital after an illness of three days.
The body was moved from the Didesch Funeral Home to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jenny Hayden, of Keokuk, Ia., from where services will be held on Saturday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Keokuk. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery there.
Newcomb was born on July 24, 1872, in Michigan, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Newcomb. He was married in December, 1892, and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. His wife died in January, 1943.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Welsh, Mrs. Alice Clark and Mrs. Margaret Rapp, all of Davenport, Mrs. Mary Fox, of Dubuque, Mrs. Melvin (Jenny) Hayden, of Keokuk, Ia., Mrs. Della Brown, of Burlington, Ia., and Mrs. Ruth Corcoran, of Longvale, Calif., and John Newcomb, Jr., of Davenport, Ia., 32 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife, two sons, his parents, and several brothers and sisters.
