R.E. Linquist dies today (April 15, 1974)
Robert E. "Bob" Linquist, 79, 806 Blondeau, formerly associated for many years with Linquist Bros. Furniture Store, died at 3:15 a.m., today, in St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Linquist was born July 3, 1894, in Keokuk, the son of the late Louis F. and Matilda Peterson Linquist. He married Dorothy Helen McHugh June 27, 1936, in Keokuk. She preceded him in death in 1968.
Until his retirement, he was associated with his father and brother in the family store, Linquist Bros. Furniture Store, 518 Main. He was a Veteran of WWI, serving with the U.S. Army as an engineer. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church; a charter member and 50-year member of the Keokuk Lions Club;a 50-year member of the Eagle Lodge No. 12, A.F.&A.M.; and a member of the Davenport Consistory and of Kaaba Temple.
Mr. Linquist is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Barbara) Staab, Keokuk; and Mrs. John (Patricia) Brown, Alexandria, Mo.; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and two children.
Masonic services for Mr. Linquist will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at DeJong's funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wendesday, at the First Baptist church. The Rev. Virgil V. Reeve will officiate. Burial with military services will be in the Keokuk National cemetery.
The family has suggested Memorials to the First Baptist Church.
