Argyle-Pearl Junior Jeffers, 84, of Argyle, died at 1:16pm Sunday Nov 17, 2002 at Great River Medical Center in Burlington. He was born on Jan 18, 1918 the son of William Pearl and Irene Ota Wilsey Jeffers. He married Anna Louise Hanson on Dec 9 , 1939 in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on Dec 22, 1986.
Survivors include: three children, David Jeffers of Keokuk, William Jeffers of Argyle and Christine Vaughn and her husband, Ernie, of New London, Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four sisters, Gertrude McCarty of Fort Madison, Mary Elizabeth Case of Long Beach, Calif, Neva Springer and her husband, Forrest, of Kahoka Mo and Jann Evans of Letts and numerous nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, William A Jeffers during World War II. He was a farmer and lived most of his life in the Argyle and Keokuk area except for six years during World War II when he lived in California and worked in the shipyards. Mr. Jeffers was employed by Borg-Warner in Keokuk for 10 years until his retirement.
He was a regular customer at “One Stop” in Argyle. He enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes. Mr. Jeffers was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau.
Funeral services are at 11 am Thursday at DeJong’s Funeral Home in Keokuk, with Rev. John Abraham officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Vincennes. Visitation is from 7 to 9 pm. Wednesday at the funeral home with family meeting friends at that time.
