A FATAL ACCIDENT March 16, 1899

Albert Wyrick Killed by a Train Near Hinsdale.

News reached this city Monday afternoon of an accident in which Albert Wyrick, a well known and popular young farmer of the vicinity of Vincennes, lost his life.
He was struck by a freight engine about 2 O'Clock Monday afternoon about half a mile west of Hinsdale and thrown quite a distance, being killed almost instantly. Mr Wyrick was moving from Vincennes to the Jones farm, where he was employed. While crossing the track at the point named, he saw the train coming and endeavored to get his horse, which he was leading, across the rails.
The animal also saw the approaching train and, at a critical moment, balked, pulling back and placing the unfortunate man on the track in front of the train. Before he could recover himself he was struck by the engine and hurled a distance of about thirty feet, striking against a post. The train was immediately stopped and an examination made, but life had departed.
Word was brought to Keokuk and Coroner Garrison left for the scene of the accident. Mr Wyrick was married and leaves a widow and one child about three years old. He was in Keokuk last week as a witness in a case in the superior court and had many friends here.
