Robert Hanna
Robert W. Hanna, 67, of Mount Pleasant, died of cancer at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born March 20, 1933, near Middletown, he was the son of Chester and Birdie Smith Hanna. He married Marjorie J. Martin on April 26, 1952, in Fort Madison.
Mr. Hanna moved to Mount Pleasant with his family at the age of seven. He attended Mount Pleasant High School. He farmed on the family farm west of Mount Pleasant with his father.
In 1958, he bought a farm near Mount Pleasant, where he farmed and lived the rest of his life. He was a cement finisher for 38 years and a concrete contractor for 10 years. He worked for H. Eugene Smith Construction for 15 years and Ahren's Concrete Construction for 11 years, along with various other contractors. He retired from Ahren's Construction in 1998, having worked all over the United States.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, the National Rifle Association and Cement Masons Local 484. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and wildlife. He loved NASCAR racing, woodworking, reading, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed socializing with friends.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheila J. McKenzie and Karen S. Noble, both of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Robert J. Hanna of St. Charles, Mo., and Michael C. Hanna of Maplewood, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Ralph Hanna of Cisco, Texas; one sister, Murrell Morgan of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, two nephews, one niece and two great-nieces.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.
The funeral for Mr. Hanna will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery, near Danville.
Memorials have been established for Mount Pleasant Public Library and Trees Forever.
