Claude Young

Claude Elmer Young, 83, of New London, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 7, 1918, in Mount Hamill, he was the son of Charles Edward and Vera Belle Hampton Young. He married Georgiana Nau on Feb. 1, 1939, in Burlington.

Mr. Young was a 1937 graduate of New London High School. He farmed and raised cattle and also was a petroleum salesman for Des Moines County Farm Service for 25 years.

He was a member of New London United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Claudia Coberley of New London and Pam Stone of Keokuk; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Hanks of New London.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and a son-in-law.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Young will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established for his church.
