John Bazel

John Evertt Bazel, 94, of Gerald, Mo., formerly of Leslie, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Sullivan, Mo.

Born Aug. 4, 1909, in Denmark Township, he was the son of James Louis and Lillie Ivins Bazel. On June 17, 1951, he married Hazel Noble Salzwedel. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Bazel was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Sullivan, Owensville Old Threshers Association and Midwest Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant. He enjoyed antique tractors and auctions.

Survivors include one son, Ken Salzwedel of Iowa; two daughters, Janice Hoehle of Iowa and Elaine Gurda of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Midlawn Funeral Home in Union, Mo.

A graveside service for Mr. Bazel will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Evergreen Baptist Church.
