I am a great granddaughter of James M. Cowan, who settled in Kossuth County in the mid to late 1800's. James'son, Woodson, grew up in or near Algona and left to attend the Chicago Art Institute. He eventually had two sons, Curt and Thad (my father) and settled in Connecticut.

I saw a mention of James M. Cowan in a history of Kossuth County (from the late 1800's?). Does anyone know how I can get a copy of this history?

Also, please contact me if you have additional family information, such as James' wife's name or where they were from before they came to Iowa. I believe my grandfather had brothers and/or sisters that may have stayed in the area.
