Mike S. Arend of Algona, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Good Samaritan Center. Funeral service for Mr. Arend is at 11 a.m. today (Monday) in St. Cecelia's Catholic Church with Msgr. W.B. Bauer officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery with
the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-Mc-Cullough Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. A lifetime resident of Kossuth County, Mike was born June 19, 1895, a son of Henry and Eva Hintjes Arend. He attended country school and farmed the home farm two years. He was married to Josephine Weyer Jan. 29, 1918 in St. Cecelia's Church by Father Maynard. The couple moved south of Titonka on a farm where they lived 12 years before they purchased a farm near Burt in the late '20's. They lived there 30 years and moved into Algona in 1957. He had been in failing health the past four years and was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home since July 20, 1973. Mr. Arend is survived by his wife and one son, Paul Arend of Burt. There are three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One brother and three sisters also survive; Peter, Rose and Christine, all of Algona and Mrs. Caroline Gilmore, Reno. Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.Parish Rosary was at 8 p.m. and the Scripture reading at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers are Francis Nillis, Milford Hilbert, Roman Arend, Edward Arend, Duane Arend and Richard Arend.
