W.E. Baker, 73, Funeral Services Held Thursday
Funeral services were held today, Nov. 3, 1949, for William Elwood Baker of Algona who died Tuesday at the age of 73.
Services were at St. Cecelia's at 9 a.m. with Father Gearen officiating. Interment was at Calvary cemetery.
William Elwood Baker was born in Chelsey, Iowa, Aug. 19, 1875, the son of Morhlan and Mary Baker. He was united in marriage to Leona Hudson at Bancroft in 1897 and to this union, eight children were born.
Sons are Harry of San Francisco, Calif.; William, Algona; John of Allison; Darwin, Ft. Dodge and Harold of Cedar Falls. Daughters are Mrs. Elds Morlan, Des Moines and Mrs. Wilfred Lauritson of Dows. Marie LaGoss died in 1929.
The Bakers moved to this community thirty years ago and Mr. Baker was employed as a salesman.
Also surviving, besides his wife and children, are one brother, Charles of Bancroft and four sisters. Sisters are Mrs. Henry Fox, Bancroft; Mrs. Sadie Whalen, Mason City; Mrs. Rose Hanlon, Mason City and Mrs. Charles Wiltse, Blue Earth.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Harold Presthus, John Schultz, Merlin Baker, Robert Lauritson, Stanley Betters and Norman Soroka. Arrangements were by McCullough's.
