Feb 12, 1919 - Algona Upper Des Moines - A very sad accident occurred near St. Joe last Saturday morning when the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Wiltgen was burned to death. He was starting a fire in the stove with kerosene oil and the can exploded throwing the burning oil over him.

He ran up stairs and when his mother got him down again and out of doors, she rolled him in the snow. He was so badly burned that he lived but a short time. The mother was also seriously burned and is under the care of a physician. Funeral services were held at the St. Joe church Monday morning, Father Stock officiating.
