April 8, 1976 - West Bend Journal - Raymond J. Thilges, 63, lifetime St. Joe area farmer, died at the Kossuth County Hospital Friday afternoon, April 2. Mr. Thilges became ill in Phoenix while visiting his son and was transferred by air ambulance to the Kossuth County Hospital the day prior to his death. The family services were held at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wilson's, with the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at St. Joe with Rev. David J. Hogan the celebrant. Burial in the parish cemetery with Wilson's of Algona in charge. Pallbearers were Duane Weydert, Richard Plathe, Richard Kayser, Kelly Thilges, Bill Gappa and Larry Smith. The parish Rosaries were at 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday with the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Born in Riverdale Township of Kossuth County March 19, 1913, Raymond was a son of Nicholas and Margaret Zeller Thilges. He received his schooling at St. Joe and was married to Marie Fish June 22, 1938 in St Joes Catholic church. Mr. Thilges was still active in farming at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus at St. Joe.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons and two daughters: Kenneth Thilges, Phoenix, Ariz.; Bob, at home; Phyllis, Mrs. Larry Stacy, Washington, Mo.; Marilyn, Mrs. Gene Bondurant, Colorado Springs, Colo. There are five grandchildren. Five brothers and three sisters also survive: Alfred, Barney, and Jake Thilges, all of Bode; Norbert, Lake Mills; Mark, West Bend; Marcella, Mrs. Clarence Smith, Bode; Martha, Mrs. Herb Kayser, Ottosen; and Mary, Mrs. Robert Gappa, Ayrshire.
