April 12, 1951 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Funeral rites for Nicholas N. Thilges, life long resident of Kossuth county, were held Monday, April 9, from the St. Joe Catholic church. Father N. Becker officiated at the solemn requiem high mass. The Hamilton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thilges was born April 13, 1881, at St. Joe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Thilges. He lived all his life in the same community, farming for many years. He was married June 4, 1912, at Clare City, Minn., to Maggie Zeller. He died Friday morning at a Des Moines hospital, suffering from diabetes.

Besides his widow, he is survived by nine children: Ray, Alfred, Bernard, Jacob, Martha (Mrs. Herbert Kayser), Mark, Mary, Marcilla (Mrs. Clarence Smith), all of St. Joe, and Norbert of Bancroft. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters: Mike, Casper, and James Thilges, all of St. Joe; Roney, Tracy, Minn.; Mrs. Jim Reding, Algona; Mrs. Chris Gales, Irvington.

Three brothers, a sister, and one son preceded him in death. Pallbearers at the funeral were Edward Thilges, Alfred Reding, Edward Thilges, Alfred Reding, Harold Thilges, Frank Thilges, Alfred Gales, and Albert Thilges. Burial was in the St. Joe cemetery.
