Sept 18, 1956 - Algona Upper Des Moines - At St. Cecelia's Leonard Thilges, 83, a resident of Kossuth county since 1895, died last Friday evening at St. Ann hospital. Funeral services for Mr Thilges were held Monday morning at St. Cecelia's Catholic church, with Msgr. P.P. Gearen officiating. Burial was in the St. Joe cemetery with the Hamilton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Tony Weydert, Nicholas Weydert, Hubert O'Brien, Julius Capesius, Wilfred Snyder and Martin Friders.

Mr Thilges was a retired farmer. He was born Sept. 18, 1873, in Luxemburg. He came to St. Joe in 1895 and lived and farmed there until September of 1941 when he moved to Algona. He was married to Eva Braun March 7, 1905, who survives him. Also surviving are the following children: Emil Thilges of West Bend, Lawrence Thilges of Bode, and Julia, Mrs Lorenz Bormann. Mr Thilges had not been in good health for the past several years.
