May 5, 1936 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Funeral Services Held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church - St. Joe: Laurena Thilges, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Thilges passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 29, 1936. Laurena was born on October 31, 1907, and was 28 years, five months, and 29 days of age at the time of her death, and has spent her entire life in this vicinity. She attended St. Joseph parochial school. Up to the time of her illness she had kept house for her great uncle, William Link, for 11 years from 1925-1936.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Thilges; her grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Etringer, and five brothers and five sisters, Mrs. Nick Huberty (Malinda, Laurena's twin sister), Mrs. Arnold Kellner (Hilda), Albert, Alvina, Raphael, Charles, Martin, Martha, William and Ivo Lu, and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. George Theobald reading the requiem high mass and interment was at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Pall bearers were: Raymond Thilges, Harold Thilges, Lawrence Thilges, Ralph Reding, Alvin and Raymond Berte. Among relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jake Welbig, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Welbig and children, all of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Feller and son, Springville, Ia.; Mrs. George Schafer, Preston, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Etringer and Mrs. Margaret Etringer, Marquette, Ia.
