Dec 11, 1958 - Kossuth County Advance - Last rites for Mrs. Kathryn Thilges, 76, were held Tuesday morning at St. Cecelia's Catholic church here. Father Mason officiated and burial was made in the St. Joseph's cemetery with Hamilton's in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thilges died Saturday at St. Ann hospital where she had been taken a few hours earlier. She was a resident of this area for the past 55 years. Serving as pallbearers were Peter Mertz Jr., Art and Milford Plathe, Walter Pfeffer, Ed Reilly and Jack Mertz. She lived at 321 North Jones street in Algona.

Kathryn, the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn Lucas Plathe, was born May 28, 1882 in Dubuque county and moved with her parents to Humboldt while still a small child. She was married to Henry Thilges at St. Joe in 1903 and the couple farmed in that area for 50 years. During the past 55 years, Mrs. Thilges had lived either in St. Joe or in Algona, where she came in 1953.

Survivors include two daughters: Sulvia, Mrs. Hubert O'Brien of Bode, and Valeria Thilges, Algona; four sons, Henry, LuVerne; Herman, Oswald and Wilmer of Algona; two brothers, Herman Plathe of Irvington, and Charles Plathe of Bode; three sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Peter Mertz, West Bend; Barbara Plathe, Chicago; and Celia, Mrs. Ed Reilly, Janesville, Wis.; 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death, as well as two sons and her parents.
