March 30, 1937 - Kossuth County Advnce - St. Joe — Henry M. Thilges, 62, long a prominent Riverdale farmer, died last week Tuesday, following a long sickness with heart disease. He had not had good health for years and after returning from the Mayo clinic in November, he was confined to bed. At Christmas time he suffered a severe heart attack from which he never fully recovered.
Funeral services were conducted Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. Joseph Catholic church, the Rev. Father Theobald, pastor in charge, and burial was made in the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. Six sons served as pallbearers.
Mr. Thilges was born March 21, 1875, at the parental home south of Algona. In this community he spent all his life. He was the only son of Michael and Anna Thilges, pioneer Kossuth farmers. He attended the St. Joseph parochial school, and on May 26, 1903, was married to Kathryn A. Plathe, of the same neighborhood, who with eight children survives: Walter, Herman, Oswald, Valeria, and Wilmer, all at home; Ray, of Bode; Mrs. Sylvia O'Brian, and Harry, LuVerne. There are three grand daughters, also two sisters: Mrs. Susan Wagner, West Bend; and Mrs. Anna Pfeffer, Algona.
Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halbur, Halbur; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Diers, Cyrenus Diers, and Mr. and Mrs. Ricker, all of Arcadia; Mrs. Mary Kunz, Ollie Kunz, Mr. Plathe, daughter Leoa all of Grandville; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Girres, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kunz, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Girres, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schumacher, all of Mallard; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Schumacher, Mrs. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schumacher, Emmetsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Rieter, Mrs. Shiltz, son Arthur, all of Bancroft; Mrs. Anna Thilges and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weaver, Lakota; and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pfeffer, Garner.
