THILGES, HOFFMAN, BRADLEY, REDING, GALES

January 6, 1948 - Algona Upper Des Moines - With six nephews acting, as pallbearers, last rites for Henry Thilges, 69, prominent St. Joe farmer, were held Tuesday, Dec, 30, at St Joseph's Catholic church, with Father Theobald officiating at the funeral mass. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.

Mr. Thilges died at his farm home, northwest of St Joe Sunday Dec 28th. His death marked the end of a life time spent in Kossuth county. He was born Dec 18, 1878 at St Joe & attended school there. His parents were Nicholas & Margaret Thilges.

On May 1, 1912 he was married to Margaret Hoffman at St Joe. His widow survives him as do the following children: Mrs Walter Bradley (Alida) Algona; Sister M Alda, Bancroft; & Henry, Harold, & Alvin Thilges. Brothers & sister surviving are Michael, James, Casper, & Nick Thilges, Mrs James Reding, Mrs Chris Gales, Roney Thilges. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Nephews acting as pallbearers are: Alphonse & Bernard Thilges, Maurice Borman, Robert Kirsch, Marcel & Chris Reding.

Mr Thilges was not only a pioneer farmer but was a constant leader in local activities heading up the Red Cross drive ... The rest of the obituary was illegible.
