Mar. 13, 1934 - Humboldt Independent — St Joe - Mrs. Peter N. Thilges, four miles northwest of St. Joe, died Saturday afternoon at the Kossuth hospital, following a major operation Friday. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father George Theobald at St. Joseph's church at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning and burial was made in the St. Joseph cemetery.

Mrs. Thilges was born November 17, 1877, at Brandenberg, Luxembourg, and was in her 57th year at death. Her maiden name was Frideres. She came to America on April 1892, settled near St. Joe, and was married May 20, 1902, here. There were seven children but three died in infancy. The four surviving, all at home, are Edward, Alphonse, Agatha, and Rosina.

Pallbearers were six nephews, Leo and Harold Frideres, Tony and Raymond Thilges, Aloysius Gales, and Ralph Reding. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hoffman, all of Luxembourg, Iowa, and Kathryn Thilges, LeMars. This was one of the largest funerals ever seen at St. Joe. Many were unable to get inside the church.
