Feb 8, 1940 - Mallard Leader - With expressions of sincere regret the news of the death early Tuesday morning of Mike Simon was received by his many friends in the community.

Mr. Simon was born at New Vienna, Iowa, in Dubuque County on October 25, 1878. He spent most of his life at St. Joe, Iowa, where he was employed on various farms. Three years ago he came to Mallard where he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Susie Wagner. As Mr. Simon had never married he enjoyed the devotion and loving care that his sister so graciously bestowed upon him. He had been suffering with a cold for several days when pneumonia set in and his condition became critical.

His sisters and brothers were summoned to his bedside and on Tuesday he passed on to his reward at the age of 61 years. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church in Mallard. The body was taken to St. Joe, Iowa for burial.

Mr. Simon is survived by two brothers: John of Ottosen and Nick of Burt, Iowa; five sisters: Mrs. Susie Wagner of Mallard, Mrs. Mary Leland of Swea City, Mrs. Margaret Andre of Graettinger, Mrs. Anna Eischen of Waldorf, Minn., and Mrs. Theresa Venema of West Bend.
