April 5, 1938 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Wesley: Funeral services for Theodore Schroeder, 78, who passed away Thursday noon following a three years illness with cancer, were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Wesley Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, with the Rev. A.J. Wagner in charge of the Requiem Mass.

Mr. Schroeder was born in Dickrf, Luxemburg, on December 31, 1859, and came to America at the age of 20 years and settled on a farm near St. Joe, Iowa. He was married soon after to Katherine Wagner of St. Joe, and to which union seven children were born, three of whom survive, namely: Margaret, who has always made her home with her father in his declining years; Mrs. Mary Wright of Houston, Texas; and Mrs. Anna Terharr of Rice, Minn.

This Mrs. Schroeder passed away in September, 1895. Later he was married to Margaret Wagner, sister of the first wife, and to this union were born three children, two of whom survive, Nicholas of Pierz, Minn., and Mrs. Katherine Francis of Corwith. This Mrs. Schroeder passed away in 1923. Besides this he leaves 13 grandchildren and a brother who still lives in Luxemburg.

He and his family came to Wesley in the fall of 1895 and have lived here ever since. He was at first engaged in the furniture and undertaking business, later in a general store. For twenty years he served the community as assessor, giving up his duties in that line only three years ago due to ill health. Following services Saturday morning, the remains will be taken to the St. Joe Catholic cemetery, where burial will take place in the family lot.
