May 13, 1958 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Louis Schmit, a lifelong resident of this area, died May 5 at St. Ann hospital. Funeral services were held last Thursday, May 8, at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic church at West Bend, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery at St. Joe.

Mr Schmit was born Dec. 24, 1875, northeast of Algona in Plum Creek twp. He was a son of Michael and Barbara Schmit. The family moved to St. Joe, where he lived until 10 years ago when he moved to West Bend. His parents, a brother, Peter, and a sister, Mary, preceded him in death. Pallbearers were Frank Zeimet, Matt Szerenese, John Origer, Anton Becker, M.T. McGuire and Alfred Thilges.
