May 27, 1971 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Funeral services for Nick Reding of Algona, 76 year old retired Whittemore area farmer, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Cecelia's catholic Church with Monsignor L.J. Hoffman officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery at St. Joe, the Hamilton-Wilson Funeral Home of Algona in charge of the arrangements. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post No. 425 of Whittemore. Pallbearers were Nicholas Reding, Terry Reding, William Rakers, Robin Reding, Delmar Reding and Luke McGuire.

Nick Reding was born Dec. 13, 1894 in Riverdale Township of Kossuth County, son of Nicholas and Anna Laubenthal Reding. He was married to Anna Wagner at St. Joe on Feb. 18, 1919 and they farmed in the Whittemore area until 1961 when he retired and they moved into Algona. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago.

Mrs. Reding survives her husband, with two sons and one daughter: Robert, Tempe, Ariz.; Cletus, Phoenix, Ariz; and Mary Jane, Mrs. William Rakers of Waterloo. There are 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and three sisters: Peter, Andrew, Louis and Will, all of Algona; Mrs. Clara Walker, Algona; Elizabeth, Mrs. John Bormann, Bode; and Sister Mary Phillis Reding of Bancroft. Mr. Reding served with the U.S. Army during World War I and is a charter member of the Seely Walsh Post No. 425 of the American Legion at Whittemore. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
