Nicholas Reding 1834-1915

Nov 3, 1915 - Emmetsburg Palo Alto Tribune - Nicholas Reding died at his home at St. Joe on Sunday, October 15. He had been ill for six months. His death was caused by dropsey and a weak heart. The funeral was held at St. Joe on Tuesday. An automobile hearse from Algona conveyed the body to the cemetery. There were one hundred autoes in the procession.

The deceased was born in Dahl, County Witte, Luxemburg, Germany, Aug. 20, 1834. In 1859 he crossed the ocean and located at Toledo, Ohio, and worked in the pineries there until 1864 when he moved to Dubuque, Ia.

In 1867 he located at St Joseph in Kossuth county where in 1869 he united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Erpelding. Five sons were born to this union. His wife died in 1882. On Dec. 18, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Laubeuthal at St. Joseph. Fifteen children were born to this union. Mr. Reding lived to a good, ripe old age. He was shrewd, honest and ambitious and besides caring well for a large family he accumulated a great deal of the world's goods. He was highly respected by all who knew him.

His wife and twenty children survive him and all were in attendance at his funeral. The children are John, Peter and Adam of Bode, Michael of Luverne, J.P. of Ottosen, P.C. of Monterey, Minn , James and Mrs Anna Thilges of St Joseph, Mrs. Kathrine Capesius of Algona. The others are George, Elizabeth, William, Nicholas, Susan, Andrew, Louis, Clara, Mary, Margaret, and Helen are at home with their mother. They have the sympathy of their friends.

Oct 29, 1915 - Bode Bugle - Nick Reding, aged 81 years, 2 months and 4 days, died at his home near St. Joe Sunday morning Oct. 24th. He was born in Germany and was one of the early settlers in the German settlement to the north of Bode. In 1869 he was married to Miss Anna Erpelding and to this union five sons were born. After his first wife died he was married again in 1883 to Miss Anna Laubenthel of Rodman, to this union fifteen children were born and all of the children were at the funeral, which was held at St Joe Tuesday morning.
