Oct 22, 1954 - Humboldt Republican - Funeral services for John S. Reding, 83, lifelong resident of the St. Joe community were held Saturday, Oct, 9, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. Leo C. Schumacher officiated at the requiem high mass, and burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery. Mr Reding passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, at his home after a short illness.

John S. Reding was born March 10, 1871, at St. Joe, son of the late Mr and Mrs Nick Reding, he was married to Mary Reding Jan. 26, 1902, at St. Joe, and lived and farmed in this area since that time.

He is survived by: His wife, two daughters, Mrs George Bormann (Anna), Mrs Peter Bormann (Amanda), and a son, Harold, all of this community; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and 15 brothers and sisters, Peter, Andrew, Louis, Mrs Frank Capesius, and Mrs Clara Walker of Algona, Adam of Rodman, George of West Bend, Nick of Whittemore, Mrs Lizzie Bormann, William, Mrs Math Kirsch, and Mrs Julius Capesius of St. Joe, Mrs Steve Devine of Corwith, P.C. Reding of Monterey, MN., and Sister Phyllis of Monticello,IA.

Pallbearers were all nephews: John, Alfred, Joe, and Peter Reding, Jr., and Paul Erpelding.
