Dec 3, 1873 - Algona Republican — It becomes painful duty to announce the death by accident of Mr. John Reding, a German of Cresco Township. It appears that on Wednesday last Mr. Reding was on his way to Algona with a load of wheat and was about dismounting from his load while under way, with the intention of walking, when he fell partly under the wagon, the wheel passing over one shoulder and his breast.

The injured man twice arose to his feet but fell again each time and was finally assisted to remount by some of his neighbors who were with him. He asked to be taken home as quickly as possible and that a physician be sent for. Before reaching home however he told his friends that a doctor would be of no use to him as his was a hopeless case. When his residence was reached, which was within an hour after the accident, he was found to be dead. Mr. Reding was about 28 years of age and leaves a wife and three children to mourn the death of a husband and father.
