Jan 5, 1967 - Kossuth county Advance - Herman Plathe, a well known retired farmer of St Joe, died at St Ann Hospital Monday. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph Catholic church with Father Leo Schumacher officiating. Burial was in the St. Joe cemetery with Hamilton's in charge of arrangements. Serving as pallbearers were Oswald Thilges, Delmar Plathe, Peter Mertz Jr., John Mertz Jr., Donald Hilbert, and Duane Hilbert.

Mr. Plathe farmed for many years in the Irvington area and was 78 years old at the time of his death. He was born May 24, 1888, at New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Catherine Plathe. He was married to Justine Geishecker on Oct. 15, 1912 a St. Joe. He grew up in the St Joe area and from 1912 until his retirement, farmed in the Irvington area. His wife preceded him in death July 12, 1951.

Two children survive: Bernadine, Mrs. Ted Hilbert of LuVerne, and Milford Plathe, Irvington. There are also three sisters and a brother: Elizabeth, Mrs Peter Mertz, West Bend; Miss Barbara Plathe, Des Moines; Charles Plathe, Bode; and Celia Plathe, Jesville, WI. Also surviving are nine grandchildren.
