Dec 8, 1920 - Algona Upper Des Moines - John Arend, known to his many friends as "Grandpa" Arend, passed away at the home of his son Henry in
this city on November 25. The old gentleman had been in failing health for several weeks and his death was due to general debility.

He was born in Luxemburg, April 4, 1832. and came to America in 1882. He leaves three children: Henry; Mrs Mary Origer of St. Joe; and Stephen
who resides in the old country. Other relatives who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Arend of Minnesota, Mrs. George Parson of
Humboldt and Dominick Nellis and his mother of Remsen. Funeral services were held the following Monday at the Catholic church.
