May 6, 1914 - Algona Upper Des Moines - Henry Kohlhaas, one of the leading farmers of Sherman township, passed away Friday night at the Algona Hospital. Mr. Kohlhaas had been ailing for the past year or more and about two weeks ago had a severe attack of stomach trouble. He was taken to the hospital and the doctors pronounced his trouble a case of obstruction of the bowels. An operation was performed and it was thought he was improving but his weakened condition could not withstand the shock. He was a prominent man in his locality and an honest and reliable man who had many friends.

Henry Kohlhaas was born in Sigourney, Iowa, December 4, 1851, and was past 62 at the time of his death. He moved and settled in Sherman township in 1879 and married Miss Mary Mallinger December 2, 1885. He leaves a wife and five children: Mrs. John Kirch, of Sherman, Mrs. Jean Yakley of Madelia, Minnesota, Casper of Sherman, Henry and Mina who are at home. Casper, a brother, and Mrs. John Gisecker, a sister. The funeral was held from the home in Sherman township Monday morning and at 9:30 o'clock services were held at the church at St. Joe.
