Jan 27, 1916 - Algona Courier - A most sad and sudden death took place at the Algona hospital early Tuesday morning when Lizzie Kohlhaas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Kohlhaas of Sherman township, and sister of the Kohlhaas brothers of this town, passed away.

The young woman was twenty-five years of age, large, strong, and always healthy. Some time ago she suffered a rupture, or hernia, and her friends thought it advisable to have an operation performed for its cure. She came to the hospital and underwent the operation on Tuesday the 18th, and all went well. The operation was simple and she began to improve right way.

It was expected that she would be up very soon, but at about 5 o'clock Tuesday morning her nurse heard her scream and went to her assistance but found her unconscious. The doctor was called and it was ascertained that she had sustained an apoplectic stroke and was dying. Her mother and brother were with her, and her father was hailed from his home in Sherman, but in a few minutes death ensued. The shock is a great one to the parents and the family.

The young woman was one of the two daughters of the family, and her death is the first death in the family. The remains were taken to the home Tuesday, and the burial will take place from the St. Joe church today. The Courier extends sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
