March 1906 - We regret to learn that Mr. J.H Knott of St. Joe is seriously ill with gangrene in one foot and leg. A vein became clogged as in the case of Mr. Lambert of this town a few months ago, but Mr. Knott's case is reported more serious. His many friends hope for his recovery.

April 19, 1906 - Algona Advance - The Livermore Gazette tells of the death of J.H. Knott who passed away as the result of a paralytic stroke a few days ago. He was an early settler near Livermore where he raised a large family. He was past seventy years old when called from all earthly duties. He was one of the most interesting conversationalists to be found in the country. He never grew tired telling his friends of his experience in army life. He told us only a few months ago that he was prouder of the fact that he had been one of "Sherman's bummers" on the march from Atlanta to the sea than any other act of his life. We sincerely regret to learn that his life is ended.
