Sept 27, 1893 - Algona Republican - Death has again invaded the ranks of the old settlers of Kossuth county and Mr. John Goeders senior has crossed the river of death to the realms beyond. In the neighborhood of a year ago he commenced to feel badly but supposed that it would pass off in a few days and that he would soon be enjoying his usual health. But as time wore away and his health continuing to be poor he consulted a physician, who pronounced it some chronic disease of the stomach or bowels.

Not receiving any benefit from the physician's treatment he removed from Cylinder, where he had resided for a short period to this city some few weeks ago. Meanwhile the disease had enfeebled him and he was advised to go to Chicaago for treatment. He accepted the advice and accompanied by his son John he went to Chicago and consulted some eminent physicians who informed him that he was suffering from a cancer of the stomach and that his ultimate recovery was hopeless. Since his return, the disease made rapid progress and Monday night dissolution took place.

The deceased emigrated to this country from Germany some thirty years ago and settled in Clayton county where he resided for about five years. He then removed to this county and settled at St. Joe where he has made it his home ever since, with the bare exception of a year or two. His funeral obsequies occurred today in St. Cecelia church and the remains were taken to St. Joe for interment.

He leaves a wife, five sons, and three daughters to mourn his loss all of whom reside near here except one son who resides in Nebraska. Mr. Goeders was an upright conscientious man, just in his dealings with his fellow men and respected by all. His bereaved family, have the sympathy of the entire community in this their sad bereavement.
