June 26, 1914 - Algona Courier - Matt Friederes of Riverdale had been ill for some months with heart trouble and dropsy, but of late his friends thought he was improving, and two weeks ago he was able to walk about the yard. But on Saturday last a turn for the worst came and death ensued in a short time.

Deceased was a native of Luxemberg, Germany, and was a resident of this county 26 years or more, and was one of the prominent and worthy men of the St. Joe country. He was intelligent and industrious and he prospered well, leaving a valuable estate to his heirs. A few years ago he returned to his native land for a visit and had the pleasure of viewing again the scenes of his youth and meeting many friends, but when he returned he said he was glad to be here again, that this was his home and his country and there was no country like it.

His wife and three children survive him. The children are John who is married and on the old home; Henry of near Ottosen, also married; and Katie, the wife of Peter Thilges. The burial took place Monday from the St. Joe church, and the remains were laid to rest in the St. Joe cemetery. Mr. Friederes was about 62 years of age. The Courier extends its condolences to the bereaved family.
