March 15, 1923 - Kossuth county Advance - A few days ago William Erpelding of St. Joe, a brother of Casper Erpelding, who died near Whittemore a short time ago, passed away after a brief illness. A third brother is reported very sick.

William Erpelding, two and one half miles northeast of St. Joe, died yesterday morning of flu-pneumonia. He was a single man 40 years old, and a brother of Casper Erpelding, the well known Whittemore township farmer who recently died of the flu.

April 11, 1923 - Emmetsburg Palo Alto Tribune - Michael Erpelding and two sons, Casper of Whittemore, and William, of St. Joe, died within a period of two months. All were victims of the flu.
