Born Near St Joe
George W. Devine was born near St. Joe on May 20, 1871, son of Barney and Abigail Devine, pioneers of the county. He grew to young manhood there and married Lulu Pointer and they farmed for themselves in that vicinity. Three sons survive, Clifford, Ralph and Theo., all of Long Beach. The family moved to Livermore and lived there for a number of years and while there his wife passed away. He then moved to Algona and lived here several years. About 24 years ago he moved to California where he lived until his death. During his residence there he came to Kossuth county and spent the summers here.

He is also survived by three sisters, Clara Devine, Long Beach, Mrs. Nellie Goetzman, Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. Delia Carrel, Maywood, Ill., and three brothers Frank and Charles of Algona and William of Livermore.

Rev. Harry M. Burns had charge of the services Monday afternoon. Pall bearers were Edw. Capesius, John Lenertz, Geo. Lenertz, H.E. Rist, M. E. Worster and Mike Loss, Sr.
