Services for Frank Ostrum on Saturday

Funeral services for Frank E. Ostrum, 83, were held Saturday at two o'clock at the First Lutheran church wiht Rev. Robert Lorenz officiating.

Masonic services were held Friday evening at McCullough's Chapel.

Burial was in Riverview cemetery with McCullough's in charge. Pallbearers were Paul Newsome, Fred Geigel, Charles Paxson, Harry Ireland, G. R. Cook, and Dr. L. R. Potter.

Frank Edward Ostrum was born April 17, 1882, in Algona, son of Andrew Nelson and Marie Ostrum. He was married to Myra M. DeWald in April 1909.

Surviving besides his widow is one son, Edward DeWald Ostrum, Sherburn, Minn. A daughter, Helane, died in 1936 of meningitis. Two brothers and a sister are deceased. Also surviving are four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mr. Ostrum played the drums and was a member of the Algona Military band, had an orchestra of his own, played in the theatre orchestra with Mrs. N. C. Rice at the piano, and traveled with an orchestra. In 1903 for 3 years he was in the musical department of the Iowa National Guard, 56 Inf. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He worked for the City of Algona for 43 years in the water department, and was a member of the fire department. His father established the first brick yard in Algona.

Frank Ostrum, Well-Known Algonan, Dies

Frank E. Ostrum, 83, life-long resident of Algona, died at his home here Thursday.

Funeral services for Mr. Ostrum were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Lutheran church, with Rev. Robert Lorenz officiating. Burial followed at Riverview cemetery and McCullough Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Six members of the Masonic Lodge, Paul Newsome, Fred Geigel, Charles Paxson, Harry Ireland, G. R. Cook and Dr. L. R. Potter served as pallbearers.

Frank Edward Ostrum, son of Andrew and Marie Ostrum, was born here April 17, 1882. He was married to Myra Mae DeWald, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Edward, who lives in Minnesota; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter, Helene, preceded him in death.

Prior to retirement several years ago, Mr. Ostrum was employed by the city water department for 43 years and was also a member of the fire department. He had been a member of the Algona Military Band, had an orchestra of his own, with which he traveled to dances all over this area, managed the theater here for a time and played in the theater orchestra and served in the Iowa National Guard.

Mr. Ostrum's father reportedly established the first brick and tile factory here.
