In Response To: Small town of Tilton (Zelda Capehart)

Zelda, maybe a little clarification is needed here. or maybe just to confuse you more. I have a book, "American Place Names of Long Ago" It lists Tilton as having been in Poweshiek co. On Iowa place names, past & present, Tilton is indicated as being in Deep River twp. in Powieshiek co. also a Tilton listed in Keokuk co, twp. unknown. Since Sixteen Cemetery is in Prairie twp. in Keokuk co, I would assume that is the twp. the Tilton in Keokuk may have been in. It was probably the same town on the borders of the 2 respective twps in their counties. In 1920 Deep River twp, Poweshiek co, there is enumerated a Louis Capehart, 61, Oh. His wife Mary 59, Il. and their daughter Inez, 23, Louis is a retail merchant in a general store. Dick
