Seeking information on THOMAS THORNTON ADAMS, b. 9 April 1822 in KY and d. 11 Nov 1898 in Sigourney, Keokuk, IA. Settled in Polk Township, Jefferson Co. Iowa as early as 1848 as he is listed on the 1848 Election Voters List for that county. Married first to Sarah BENTLEY b. 28 Dec. 1825 and d. 24 July 1861 in Jefferson Co. Iowa.
They are both buried in Abingdon Cemetery in Jefferson County. They had the following children:
Martha Ann ADAMS marr. Darius NORTHUP
Nancy ADAMS marr. to ? BELVEAL
Minerva J. ADAMS marr. to Isaac STORY
Louis N. ADAMS marr. to Martha E. ?
James ADAMS b. 1859 and possibly raised by William and Elizabeth RUBY? Possibly relatives??
Thomas T. ADAMS married 2d Elizabeth RIDER, widow of Robert F. SMITH.
Their children were:
Sarah Belle ADAMS b. 7 Mar 1863, d. 2 July 1951 in Keokuk Co. Iowa. She marr. Perry E. LOVE.
Woodford D. Adams b. 4 April 1867

In the 1870 US Census, Jackson, Keokuk, Iowa T. T. ADAMS is listed with wife Elizabeth and children
MAY age 14, Sarah age 10 and Woodford age 3.
There is no mention of May in the 1860 or 1880 census. Was she the child of Sarah BENTLEY or Elizabeth RIDER?
She is not listed in the will of Thomas T. ADAMS.
Also would like to know if there were adoption papers filed for James who was listed with Thomas and Sarah ADAMS in the 1860 census and then does not show up in any subsequent census records. In his will Thomas ADAMS mentions his son James H. RUBY and in the administration papers lists Clinton and Nora RUBY as heirs??? Any information on this family would be helpful.
