I don't know where Oren originates in my family, but I am pleased it has a sturdy meaning in Hebrew. I'm not sure what nationality it is either. It was a common name during and after the Civil war 1860- 1890.
Gggrandfather, Winfield Scott Beck, enlisted and died after several months serving in the Civil War (Jan. 1863). I have yet to learn who his parents and siblings were. It appears he was born in North Carolina, went to Indiana where he married, had two children: Mary Alice Beck and Oren Winfield Beck, both moved to Tama County, Iowa in 1900.
The photo that surfaced recently has me puzzled. It has to be someone in the family. I wish it had surfaced in 1977 when my grandfather was still alive. He was quite a story teller.
Were your Beck ancestors in Iowa? I actively search all the time, so if you'd like to share your names, I'll keep an eye out for them.
My English ancestors came from Messingham, Lincs. My husband and I visited London and Messingham four years ago and visited their Churches and burial grounds. It was most memorable.
