FERN RAY

SIGOURNEY--Fern Ray, 72, of Sigourney, died Thursday, September 24, 1992 at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born Feb. 19, 1920 near Sigourney, the daughter of Mose and Cora Della Smithart Van Orsdall. She attended the White Oak Country School, and married Warren Ray on Feb. 18, 1947 in Princeton, Illinois. He died Nov. 25, 1990. They farmed in the Sigourney-Ollie area and she worked at a nursing home in Richland. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ollie Baptist Church and attended the Sigourney Church of Christ.

Surviving are five sons, Kenneth McMillian, Jr. of Williamsburg, Don Ray of Springfield, Mo., Gerald Ray of Riverside, California, and Robert Ray of Hatfield, Arkansas; one daughter, Mary Del Steice of Sigourney; 18 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Glandon of Sigourney and Olive Clubb of Mexico, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney with Rev. Billy Claywell officiating. Burial will be at the Van Orsdall Cemetery near Ollie. Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Saturday, with family present from 7-8:30 that evening. A memorial fund has been established.
