E. Maxene Bekel

E. Maxene Bekel, 76, 1010 Sunny Lane, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery at Germanville. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Hope Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Bekel was born April 22, 1916, in Lockridge Township, the daughter of George L. and Carrie Etta Bates Reeder. She married Merle G. Bekel on Sept. 23, 1936, at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville. A homemaker, she also was a cook for Fairfield Community Schools for 17 1/2 years. A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, she was a member of First Lutheran Church, Esther Group, 3-W Club and Good Cheer Club.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Marily McGuire of Brighton, Elaine Watson of Richland; two sons, Donald of Fairfield, Roger of Moline, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, Vernon Reeder of Phoenix. A great-grandson, a brother, Keith, and a brother and sister in infancy preceded in death.
