Lillian R. Tancer, 88 of What Cheer died Saturday Feb. 12, 2000 at the USA Healthcare Center in Newton. Funeral services were
held Feb. 15 at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with the Rev. Vince Homan of the What Cheer Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.Lillian was born Jan. 16, 1912 on the family farm near What Cheer, to John W. and Elma R. Edmundson Hampton. She was educated at the Friends Grade School in Coal Creek and at the Beeman Country School. After attending the Scattergood Friends Boarding School in West Branch for three years, Lillian and her family moved to California where she was graduated from high school in Pasadena with graduation ceremonies being held at the Rose Bowl.
On May 16th of 1933, Lillian was united in marriage to Arthur M. Tancer,and to this union three daughters were born. After living in What Cheer for five years, they established the family farm northwest of What Cheer.
Lillian's memory is honored by her three daughters and their husbands, Virginia and Lee Vos, Donna and Don Pitcher and Rita and James Dalziel; her six grandchildren, Darin and Daryl Pitcher, Jaci Vande Krol, Pam Nikkel and Arthur and Lexie Dalziel; and her nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Art, Jan. 7, 1978.
