Velma Irene Steinhart, 91, of Sigourney, died Dec. 3, 2001, at her home.

She was born May 22, 1910 near Lancaster to Frank and Nellie Carson Kleinschmidt. She married Augustin Steinhart on Jan. 4, 1930, in Sigourney. He died March 1, 1998.

She was graduated from Sigourney High School. She and her husband purchased a farm in 1957 and moved to the Delta area, where they farmed until 1984 when they retired and moved to Sigourney. They were the WMT farm family of the year in 1951. They were named Honorary Chapter Farmers by the Sigourney FFA in 1967 after 25 years of FFA activities. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Farm Bureau and the Scattergood Club. She was a cake decorator for many years.

Surviving are sons Harold, Glen, Terry and Wilmer; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mae Flanegan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Duane; a daughter, Nell Weber; two brothers, Harold and Ward Kleinschmidt.

Services are Dec. 6 in the United Methodist Church in Sigourney, The Rev. Danny Lemons and the Rev. Ralph Sprunk, officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
