George W. Sheraden, 83, of Washington, died from cancer Thurs., Jan. 29, 1998 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born July 14, 1914 in Ollie to Ralph and Pearl Zepp Sheraden. He grew up in the Ollie area and graduated from Ollie High School in 1931. He served as a member of the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942-1946. He married Anna Pacha May 26, 1953 in East Pleasant Plain. They farmed in the Ollie community until his, retirement in 1984 then moved to Washington in 1996. He was a 50-year member of The Modern Woodmen of America, a 50-year member of American Legion Post #83 in Hedrick, previously a long time member of Mother Cabrini Church in Richland and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

He is survived by his wife of Washington; one sister, Wilma Braden of Hedrick; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Carl; and one sister, Hazel Bridges.

Services were held Mon., Feb. 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, East Pleasant Plain.
