Francis E. Shannon, 62, of What Cheer died Fri., Aug. 21, 1998 at the Parkview Manor in Wellman.

He was born March 11, 1936 in Keota to Francis A. and Margaret A. Pieffer Shannon. He was raised in the Delta area and graduated from Delta High School in 1954. He then joined the United States Air Force and served at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Upon his medical discharge, he returned to Delta where he farmed with his father and also worked with a road construction crew. He worked for Kingsbury Homes of Sigourney for several years before starting a career as an over-the-road truck driver in 1981. He continued to drive until 1990 when his failing health no longer allowed him to work. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sigourney.

He is survived by his wife, Grace of What Cheer; a son, Timothy Francis Shannon; a daughter, Lisa Eileen McCoy; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert; and four sisters, Cleo Bryant, Dorothy Greiner, Marjorie Lothlan and Ruth Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held Aug. 24 at Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer, with Deacon James Striegel of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.
