Fern Hawthorne Perkins, 94, of Hedrick, died Thurs., Feb. 5, 1998 at the Ottumwa Manor in Ottumwa.

She was born Oct. 28, 1903 in Wapello County to John Clement and Jessie Ann Greenlee Hawthorne. She attended grade and high school at Hedrick and graduated in 1921. She continued her education at Drake University in Des Moines. While there she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After graduation she began teaching school in the Hedrick School system where she taught for several years. She married Dr. F. C. Perkins on Nov. 25, 1927 in Edina, Mo. He died Mar. 17, 1986. She had been a member of the Thursday Club in Hedrick. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 362 for 62 years and a past Worthy Matron, and a member of the Hedrick United Methodist Church.

She is survrved by a son, Richard Perkins and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Roger.

Funeral services were held Sun., Feb. 8 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Sharon Benell officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
